Robert Mugabe… What Happened?

Documentary (80′)

Why did Robert Gabriel Mugabe, who fought to free his country through a savage civil war, then developed and reunified it, end up by destroying much of what he had built? This feature length documentary seeks the answers through gripping story telling by Zimbabwean fellow travellers, colleagues and school mates, illuminated by powerful archive that drives the narrative of this crucial period of Southern African history. The best biopic of Mugabe so far and a fine study of the effects on mankind and politics. Directed by Simon Bright and produced by Michael Auret, the documentary had its world premiere as the Opening Night film of the Encounters South Africa International Documentary Festival in Cape Town and went on to be the most watched film at the event, with additional screenings being added to accommodate demand.

Nominated best documentary IDAF (International Documentary Film Festival of Amsterdam); South African Film and TV Awards, Best documentary; Arte France and Germany; DRTV Denmark: NRK Germany; ORF Austria; ETV South Africa.
